History

The 911 GT2 is the most extreme road-going 911 variant—a turbocharged, rear-wheel-drive monster designed for maximum performance. The original 993 GT2 (1995) was homologated for GT racing and produced just 462 hp, but its lightweight construction and rear-drive-only layout made it fearsome. The 996 GT2 (2001) pushed output to 477 hp, while the 997 GT2 RS (2010) hit 620 hp and became a Nürburgring legend. The current 991.2 GT2 RS, with 700 hp and a 6:43 Nürburgring lap time, redefined what a production car could achieve. The GT2 RS has always been the rarest and most extreme 911 in the lineup.

What Makes It Special

The GT2 represents Porsche at its most uncompromising. While the GT3 focuses on naturally aspirated purity, the GT2 adds massive turbo power to the equation and removes the safety net of all-wheel drive. The result is the most thrilling and terrifying 911 you can buy. Every GT2 variant has been produced in limited numbers and all have appreciated significantly. The 997 GT2 RS, limited to 500 units worldwide, regularly sells for 3-4 times its original MSRP. The GT2 RS is the ultimate collector's 911.

Buying Guide & Tips

All GT2 models are rare and valuable. Verify authenticity with Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and check production numbers for your specific model year.

The 997 GT2 RS (500 units worldwide) and 991.2 GT2 RS are the most collectible. Low-mileage, unmodified examples command the highest premiums.

Inspect carefully for track use or racing damage. Many GT2s have been tracked, which isn't necessarily bad but should be reflected in pricing.

The ceramic composite brakes (PCCB) on GT2 models are expensive to replace ($15,000-$20,000+). Check pad and rotor thickness during inspection.

Options and spec matter enormously for GT2 values. Weissach Package, Club Sport Package, and desirable color combinations significantly impact pricing.
